A memorable trip to Mannar

We went to Mannar on December 19, 2012. I went with my parents and grandmother. We spent five days in Mannar. We took the Dambulla-Anuradhapura Road, as the Chilaw-Puttalam Road was flooded. On our way to Mannar we went to the Madu Church. We arrived in Mannar late that evening.

The next day we went Talai Mannar to see Adam’s Bridge. I learnt that there are 16 islands between India and Sri Lanka. Eight of these islands belong to Sri Lanka and eight belong to India. We took a boat ride up to the second island. We had a sea bath and swam. The next day we went to see flamingos and the salterns. We saw the Mannar Fort, the Baobaob tree and St. Lucia’s Church. The Baobaob tree was brought to Sri Lanka by the Arabs. It looks like a tree turned upside down.

The next day we went to the South Bar Beach to watch the sunset. We saw many live starfish while having a sea bath. I spent a lot of time in the sea. After having breakfast at the hotel we went to the Ketheshwaram Kovil. Next we went to see the Yodha Wewa built by King Dhathusena.

The next day we left Mannar, after lunch. It was raining hard. We arrived back in Colombo late that night. I saw many donkewys too in Mannar. I enjoyed my trip to Mannar very much.
