The tag line “Transethnic Talent Reloaded” truly defined the spirit in which Stage Craft 2013 was held. Organized by the student union of the Informatics Institute of Technology,(IIT) and held for the 7th consecutive year at the Musaeus College Auditorium , the event embraced a collection of song, dance and drama ,and certainly kept up to it’s promise of being a great display of mind blowing extravaganza ,that epitomized and showcased the immense and varied talents of the IIT student body.

The event featured 16 performances exhibiting much diversity; from Western classics to modern Eastern favourites. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, by the dignitaries present that comprised of Dr.Gamini Wickramasinghe, Chairman ,Informatics Group of Companies, Mr. Hiran Wickramasinghe, Managing Director ,Informatics Group of Companies, Mr. Hasith Wickramasinghe and Vice Chairman, Informatics Group of Companies. The judges for the event were ,Mr.Jehan Aloysius, Mr. Lahiru Perera and Ms. Muddrika Swarnatilake. In addition to this, illustrious list of invitees attended along with well wishers, friends and the families of the participants. Their attendance not only encouraged the performers but also added to the aura of the performances themselves.

Stagecraft played more prominent role this year as it was the curtain raiser for the 30th anniversary commemoration of the Informatics Group which is one of the Sri Lanka’s premiere Information Communication Technology (ICT) companies, that has been pioneering and empowering the country’s ICT industry since its inception in 1983 and which Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) is a proud member of the group.

IIT has always upheld the tradition of giving its students a balance between work and play, which not only enhances students’ knowledge and wisdom but also encourages students to develop their talent and creativity, thereby contributing to the development of a well-rounded individual who would ultimately step out into the corporate world. It has been recognized by several educationists that extra-curricular activities supplement and extend those experiences and contacts found in the more formal part of an academic programme of university life. This has always been and will continue to be the main mission behind Stagecraft.

The winners were “The Mirror Job” the well known stage play that carried away the award for the Best Overall Performance, and “Thor Weedi Basi”, which was a witty performance of the recent blockbuster movie “Avengers” that was selected as the most entertaining performance, whilst the Overall Best Performer were won by Wishwa Perera , and Best Performance Runner up, Genevieve De Silva.
Closing the night’s performances was IIT’s very own choir performing many beautiful choral renditions of several popular and well known songs followed by the IIT anthem.

The success of this year’s Stage Craft comprised of the students who showcased their gleaming inventiveness, the hard-working committee made up of representatives from the Students’ Union and other students collectively and the back stage crew, the media unit of IIT and many others who ensured that the event turned out to be an event of great entertainment for the audience .

As a talent show that is viewed by a vast amount of corporate professionals who were among IIT’s choice for placement students as well as the alumni, the event is an excellent avenue for students to gain recognition for their talents and be rewarded accordingly.

All in all what could be said is that backstage or onstage, behind the scenes or at the very heart of one, everyone involved in Stage Craft 2013 contributed beyond measure. The spirit, energy and determination of both the organizers and performances certainly gave credit to the Informatics Institute of Technology which has, through events such as these, created not just academics, but well-rounded individuals capable of serving our society better. This year’s rendition of Stage Craft received the highest viewership since its inception. This celebration of talent has indeed seized the attention of those who appreciate quality entertainment and will definitely continue to do so in its many further installments to come.
