The third Guitar Fest organised by the Guitar Association of Sri Lanka,  ‘Colombo Guitar Fest 2013’ will come alive at the Navarangahala- Royal College Hall, Colombo on 19 January 2013.

The Guitar Association of Sri Lanka could successfully initiate the first Guitar Festival on 8th January 2011 at Russian ,Centre, Colombo and the second festival  on 21st January  2012 at New Town Hall, Colombo respectively. This festival could unite nearly forty guitarists . They performed classical, flamenco,  Hawaiian, jazz, rock and heavy metal  music using the guitars. All leading guitarists participated to this concert voluntarily.

This year ‘Guitar Fest 2013’ is scheduled to be held in Colombo, Kandy and  Jaffna. 19th Jan 2013 Royal College Hall, Colombo. (Navaranga hala). 20th Jan 2013 E.O.E. Perera Theatre,  Engineering Faculty, University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya.  21st Jan 2013 Nallur, Jaffna.

The main Concert will be held in Colombo faeturing all top guitarists and musicians on one stage.
‘All leading guitarists will come together at  this concert voluntarily and we hope to feature more than fifty professional and amature guitarists at this year’s Concert’ said Mohomed Iqbal, teh secretary of Guitar Association of Sri Lanka.
All concerts will be free of charge to the public. The regional guitarists will perform along with the association performers. Guitarists  from India, Vietnam , Japan  and  Italy will be a special feature in these concerts. These concerts are an informal education to the young.

‘As such young people who love guitar music could come and see how different guitar styles are performed. Many had to go disappointed as they could not attend the concert halls priviouse years .The cost to these concerts were met by sponsorships and contributions’ he added.  ‘The Sri Lankan society has two distinctive native languages  Sinhala and Tamil . Both these languages  have  different types of music interpretations such as carnatic and eastern music. Guitar was introduced to Sri Lanka by the European settlers. This instrument is used in all types of music by the locals. The Guitar Festival will get all types of guitar playing in Sri Lanka to perform on one stage. Guitarists of all nationalities and styles will be a special feature in’ Guitar Fest 2013’’ explained Buddika (Misha) Rodrigo, the President of Guitar Association of Sri Lanka.
