Civil engineers to hold Regional Conference in Colombo in Jan 2013

Prominent civil engineers of the Asia Pacific region will gather in Colombo for the Institution of Civil Engineers Asia Pacific Regional Conference 2013 (ICE-APRC) scheduled to be held in Colombo at the Mount Lavinia Hotel in January. Sri Lanka was selected over Australia and China who were the other bidders for the event. The theme of the conference is “Natural Disasters: The Engineer’s Role in Preparedness, Mitigation and Recovery.” While the opening address would be by the current President of the ICE, Professor Barry Clarke, the keynote address will be delivered by distinguished engineer Ms Jo da Silva, the local organizing committee said in a media announcement.

There will also be other distinguished international speakers from Japan, Malaysia, Nepal and Sri Lanka on a variety of relevant topics such as the tsunami warning systems, earthquake and disaster .
