Chinese travellers will be given an introduction to Sri Lanka via a documentary on the country planned through Beijing TV. The visiting journalists were hosted by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and met Tourism Minister Basil Rajapaksa as well, a media release issued by the Information Department stated.

At present, the filming of this documentary is carried out in Sri Lanka, under the direction of its Director Travel Programme Lan Tian and presenter Wang Xiaodong and Cameraman Wang Yang. Beijing TV and its viewership of 600 million people is definitely positive news to the blooming tourism industry in Sri Lanka, the release said.

The programme is expected to highlight famous sites like Pinnawala, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, southern beaches, heritage sites and Ayurveda with the objective of producing a highly popular programme – “Travel around the world”, which will be telecast over Beijing TV by the end of December, mid January and early February, respectively.

The Bureau invites over 200 foreign journalists to the island annually, with a view to promote Sri Lanka as a renowned destination among the travellers around the globe. As per this plan, arrangements have been made to invite 11 more journalists from leading travel magazines and websites in China in December this year, it was stated.
