‘Yaaya 4’ one of the newest teledramas unravelling the hidden agendas of groups which carry out a project in a forest reserve bordering a remote village under the guise of an environmental protection move is telecast every Sunday at 9 pm on the Swarnavahini channel.

Directed by award winning teledrama maker Chamara Janaraj Peiris, ‘Yaaya 4’ is played by a young cast including Eranga Jeewantha, Thimira Udalamatta, Chamupa Godage, Dinakshi Priyasad, Saranga Dissasekara, Bimal Jayakody, Sangeetha Basnayake, Himali Siriwardana, Chinthaka Vaas and Shanudri Priyasad.

The story is primarily woven around three families living in a village bordering an evergreen forest reserve which is virtually cut off from the outer world.

The farmer family of Gunapala and Kusuma is an exemplary one.  Their two daughters are Paarami who is studious and enters medical college and Kaavindi who is sensitive to the environment and nature.

The second family comprises a mother, son and daughter. Villagers believe that the son Kaavinga is dumb with unusual behavioural patterns. Daughter Sajani is a classmate of Kaavindi. The family of the doctor attached to the village hospital is the third family.

An attractive girl called Shakya with her peculiar mannerism, Thimira, a young boy from the village and Nuwanga are three other characters that are linked to the main story. An NGO purportedly keen to protect the environment enters this tranquil village and eventually turns it upside down. ‘Yaaya 4’ depicts incidents that reveal how the calmness and quietness of a simple village could be ruffled by the intrusion of complex foreign influences.

The director Chamara Janaraj Peiris who returns to Sri Lanka armed with a degree in Architecture from the Moscow State University chooses media as lay out designer of a newspaper. Blending his skills in architecture with his in-born painting and drawing capabilities, Chamara made his debut tele drama ‘Ayaal’ based on universal research and aliens.

The drama won awards of appreciation and best music direction at the 2011 Sumathi awards while it was nominated for a number of awards at the 2011 Raigam awards. In the technical side ‘Yaaya 4’ is edited by Lakruwan de Saram, screenplay has been by Chamara Peiris, Thimira Udalamatta and Kushani Bulumulla, camera and lighting by Chandana Jayasinghe and art direction by Dhammika Hewadunna. Make up was handled by Sanjeewa Rathnayake, music directed by Ravihans Wetakepotha, the teledrama is produced by Vinyl Gems.
