On November 8, Zonta Club 1 of Colombo celebrated 50 years of building sustainable livelihoods for women, empowering lives and engaging in other women centred projects.

Their most recent project “Building Bridges- Peace through Women” will help foster friendship, co-operation and strengthen relationships between women in the North and South. “This project will enable women to share their experiences and foster goodwill and understanding, in the process of reconcilliation,” said Prof. Chandrika Wijeyaratne, president of Zonta Club 1.

Under this project 2080 persons of the North and South will be given health interventions with the help of the Government health sector while 280 persons will be provided with water sanitation and solar power. The project will also ensure mentoring for 700 others.

A jewellery sale will be held on December 1 from 10 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. at the Dutch Burgher Union Hall, Bullers Road Colombo, proceeds of which will go to the “Building Bridges” project.
