APIIT Law School established in collaboration with Staffordshire University Law School, UK offers an internal British Degree in Law, LLB (Hons) Law. The overarching goal of the APIIT Law School is to offer legal education of international standard.

The LLB (Hons) Law programme is designed to encourage students to develop an understanding of legal concepts and working methods of the law to acquire technical expertise in solving legal problems and cultivate a critical awareness of the current legal environment.

APIIT Law School, has the only purpose-built Moot Court (mock court room) in the country. Law School consists of state-of-the-art learning infrastructure such as a modern law library, a moot court, specially designed lecture theatres, small-group tutorial rooms, IT laboratories and other support facilities.

Students of the APIIT Law School will be graduating for the first time this year. They will be graduating with an internal British LLB (Hons) Law degree from the Staffordshire University, UK.

They were the first batch of students to study the Sri Lankan labour law and company law modules offered by the Staffordshire University with the support of the APIIT Law School faculty.

Seven students transferred to Staffordshire University, UK for their final year and convocation. Most of the law students graduating this year are employed in international law firms whilst pursuing the Attorneys examination.

Students at APIIT Law School are at an unparalleled advantage due the moot court room where they engage in extensive debating and mooting to sharpen their advocating skills.

National Moot Court Champions (2012) and Runners Up (2011)

The APIIT Law School emerged champions at the Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition 2012. This event was organized by the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC). And the winners participated at the South Asian region competition held in Dhaka recently.

APIIT law school emerged champions of the most prestigious National Moot Court Competition this year.

This year also marks a milestone since the APIIT Law School won the National Moot Court Competition and the first batch of LLB (Hons) Law students will be graduating on the 4th of December this year. APIIT Law School emerged runners-up at the National Moot Court Competition in 2011.

Experiential learning at the APIIT Law School

APIIT Law School offers unparallel facilities aimed to produce legal professionals who are effective in the modern legal environment.

• At the end of level 2 students can opt for summer school in Staffordshire University, UK, where they study European Union law.

• Total development of the individual equipped with right values and attitudes in addition to outstanding SKILLS training programme.
The LLB (Hons) Law programme has been specifically developed to meet the needs of the modern lawyer and produce legal professionals who are enterprising, flexible and skilled across a wide area of law disciplines.

A unique feature of the Internal LLB (Hons) Law Degree is the SKILLS training programme that takes place throughout the first year. SKILLS training is conducted mostly through workshops and imparts skills such as legal problem solving, legal writing and research, client interviewing, and critical analysis. Consequently, students are equipped with not only subject knowledge but also a wide array of skills to become effective practitioners on graduation.

Graduates will be able to enter the employment market with the advantage of strong legal skills and will be equipped to embark on further stages of training for a professional career as Barristers or Solicitors in the UK and Attorneys-at-Law in Sri Lanka, after successful completion of the professional studies and training requirements set by the respective professional bodies.
