In order to complement the ever increasing popularity of the St. Eugene’s Trophy five-a-side inter-club basketball championship, tournament organizers have extended the duration of the competition from its usual two days, with action set to take place from October 26 to 28 at the Police Park courts.

This extension is to accommodate a new category of the competition, which will feature an Under 16 inter-schools group, thereby adding an exciting new dimension to an already thrilling tournament, members of the St. Eugene’s Association of former Oblate seminarians- the competition’s organizers- announced.

This year’s event will see the participation of 20 men’s, ten women’s and ten school teams. The defending men’s champions are the University of Moratuwa while the women’s champions are Trackmasters. This will be the tournament’s fourth edition, with the inaugural competition being won by the Wattala Basketball Club back in 2009.
