A fish talks

My name is Fingi. I live in water. I have different coloured fins and they are very soft. When I become big my colours will be very beautiful.

I eat fish food. I live in a pond in a house and I love that beautiful place. Everybody at home gives me food. I have lots of friends with me in the pond. They are goldfish, catfish, carps and scavengers. When visitors come home they see all of us in the pond and they are very happy. I am a goldfish.

A joke that I enjoyed

During the August holidays, when my father migrated back to Sri Lanka from Bangladesh, we purchased the DVD’s ‘Madagascar Return 2 Africa’ and ‘Madagascar 3’. When we were watching Part II, we came across a part where Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, King Julian and Co., the monkeys and penguins all fly from Madagsacar to New York.

On the way, their plane begins to breakdown, and the penguin skipper makes a special announcement saying, “This is you captain speaking. I have both good news and bad news. The good news is we’ll be landing immediately. The bad news is we’re crash landing!”

Every time we watch this part, we start laughing hysterically. My family enjoys this as well as the many other humourous jokes in this world famous comedy so much that we re-watch the movie several times. At the end of the movie we finish up with uncontrollable hiccups. This is just one of the funniest jokes I’ve heard. Do you get the humour of it?

A memorable trip to Nuwara Eliya

It was our August holidays. My father and mother planned to take us to Nuwara Eliya on August 29. My brother and I got up around 4 a.m., and my mother prepared our breakfast and snacks required for the journey. Catching the beauty of Devon and St. Clair Falls, we reached the Hakgala Botanical Gardens. We spent about three hours there and recorded the beautiful flowers in our camera.

Then we went to the circuit bungalow at Pattipola located close to the Pattipola Railway Station which is the highest railway station in Sri Lanka.  We were astonished by the beauty of Pattipola. We were unable to touch the ice cold water and we had to wear jerseys throughout the day.

The next morning we went to see the No.18 railway tunnel at Pattipola. The tunnel is situated about 3km away from the Pattipola Railway Station to the Ohiya side. We walked there from the station through a thick blanket of fog. We saw a large number of Maha Rathmal tress on either side of the railway track. My father told me that these trees are found only in Sri Lanka.

On our way towards the tunnel we reached the highest point of the railway network at 6,226 feet above Mean Sea Level. We reached the tunnel which was built in 1919. It is the darkest and the third longest tunnel in Sri Lanka. It is the 18th tunnel from Colombo and as a result is known as the No. 18 railway tunnel in Sri Lanka.

Next we went to see Ambewela New Zealand Farm. The climate of Ambewela is ideal for dairy farming. Then we went to see a strawberry farm close to Meepilimana. The next day we went to see Horton Plains National Park. It is the only National Park in Sri Lanka that we can walk through.

The following day we packed our things and returned home.
