Right hand batsman Sameera Sandamal and right arm pacie Hashen Ramanayake shone for Royal and St. Benedict’s in their drawn Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Sameera who was unbeaten on 31 at the end of the first day went on to make a top score of 76 that included ten boundaries and two sixes. Ramanayake ended up with impressive figures of 5 for 44. He helped Royal to restrict St. Benedict’s who was in a strong position of 74 for 3 to a score of 164. This was in reply to Royal’s score of 144 for 8 declared. Milan Abeysekera made an unbeaten 65. Royal batting for the second time ended the day on 115 for 3 with the match being called off at 4.30 p.m.

At Mt. Lavinia S. Thomas’ thanks to a knock of 66 by skipper Madushan Ravichandrakumar made 215. Madushan’s knock comprised two boundaries and three sixes and was supported by Devin Jayasinghe who chipped in with a 46. Dharmapala in their first innings were bowled out for 149.

In the match between Dharmasoka MV and St. Servatius Matara at Ambalangoda play was possible only from 3.30 p.m. St. Servatius resuming on their overnight score of 100 for 4 made 196. The highlight of the match was a 52 made by Gihan Nimsara and a eight wicket haul by Dharmasoka MV’s right arm spinner Yohan Rashmika.The match at the Kalutara Esplanade between Kalutara MV and Karandeniya Central played at the Ambalangoda Esplanade too ended in a tame draw.

The match got off to a late start on day two. Play began only at 12.00 p.m. with Kalutara MV resuming their second innings on two for no loss going on to make 161 with Karandeniya Central chasing 176 runs for victory ending the day on 89 for 3.

The first day’s proceedings were even with Kalutara MV taking first lease of the wicket being bowled out for 107 and then they struck back to restrict Karandeniya Central to a score of 93.
