Trailing 6-4 coming into the second leg of their Dr. R. L. Hayman Trophy clash with traditional rivals S. Thomas’ College, the water polo team of Royal College was confronted with a mountain of a task in clinching the title against a team that had played brilliantly in the first leg. However, surprisingly, they didn’t just merely scale this obstacle but effectively sailed right over it with a superlative 5-1victory at the Sugathadasa pool.

The victors, who were captained by Shan Lakshitha, were helped by goals from Vice Captain Sandeep Deheragoda, Shan Lakshitha, Chandula Fernando, Rifat Uvais and Kanitha Munasinghe. S. Thomas’ insufficient reply came from a solitary goal from Deelaka Weeraratne. Sandeepa Deheragoda and Devshan De Mel (S. Thomas’) shared the Most Valuable Player trophy. –DS
