Trinity College, Kandy proved their superiority in hockey over S. Thomas’ College when they won the Neville de Alwis Memorial Trophy by two goals to one in their annual fixture at Mount Lavinia recently.

At half time the Trinitians led by 2-0.

Play had hardly commenced when Trinity College were awarded a penalty and skipper Sudarshan Sunderaraj, the full back, made no mistake (1-0).

In the 15th minute of play, Trinity College was awarded a second penalty and once again it was Sunderaraj who converted it. The Thomians in the meantime missed two opportunities to open their score.

After the turn around and as the minutes ticked off, in the 48th minute, the Thomians got their act finally working when centre half Rumesh Nallaperuma passed the ball to left inside Ashwin David, who dribbled past two Trinity defenders for Thomian skipper Lashan Karunakaran to find the back of the Trinity net. (2-1) (BM)
