The Supreme Court listed to be heard on October 4, the fundamental rights petition filed by a Haj travel operator challenging the irregular selection list of pilgrims to participate in the Haj festival for 2012, as both parties had not arrived at an amicable settlement.

The petitioner Travel Data Tours and Travels (Pvt) Ltd., and its General Manger M.J. Quafdeen cited Urban Affairs Minister A.H.M. Fawzie, Environment Deputy Minister A.R.M. Abdul Cader, Prime Minister and Buddha Sasana & Religious Affairs Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Muslim Religious & Cultural Affairs Director Y.L. M Navavi and the Attorney General as respondents.
Appearing for the petitioner, Attorney J.C. Weliamuna said the Government of Sri Lanka is not following the stipulated guidelines laid down and as such the petitioner had not received the quota of pilgrims that he had received previously. He requests the respondents to abide by the guidelines and allocate a reasonable quota to the petitioner. He also objected to certain intervenient petitioners as they would be an impediment to his application.

Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake with Justices K. Sripavan and Priyasath Dep listed the case for hearing on October 4 to consider the application of the intervenient petitioners and also to consider the grant of interim relief.
