Breaking all time Bollywood box office records, ‘3 Idiots’ has become the number one highest grossed film in history.
The film broke the 35 year old record of ‘Sholey’ and more than 60 million people have watched the film in theatres by the second week of January and the numbers are only growing and the film has grossed over US $ 70 Million worldwide.
The film also became the highest grossing Indian film ever to release in the US, Middle East, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Kenya and Fiji beating all previous records. The film in UK has retained its position in the top 10 films at the British Box Office and also is Aamir Khan’s biggest grosser so far and highest box office grosser of 2009.
In addition to the international records ‘3 Idiots’ which is now being screened at the Majestic cinema Colombo too has collected nearly Rs. five million with almost 19,000 patrons in its first 23 days.
The Vidhu Vinod Chopra production has been released on 2126 copies worldwide, which is the widest release for any Indian film to date.
A provocative comedy, 3 Idiots follows two friends who go on a quest to find a third, lost friend, which in turn sends them on a trip down memory lane. Raj Kumar Hirani directed and Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi star.
