By Umhar Samsudeen
Wesley College emerged unbeaten champions in the Division 1B category when they crushed Zahira College 43 points (5 goals, 1 try and 1 penalty) to nil to achieve their ninth victory in the inter school rugby season at Havelock Park yesterday.

Wesley took the lead in the 17th minute when blindside flanker Randika Thillakaratne crossed the line off a quick tap taken close to the line. Fly half Dulaj Perera made the conversion. In the 35th minute Dulaj Perera managed to add another three points when he put over a brilliant penalty kick 45 metres far right to increase their lead. The scoreboard read 10 points to nil at lemons.

On resumption, fly half Dulaj Perera made a sparkling 35 meter run side stepping a few defenders to score under the posts in the 44th minute. The extra points were added by Dulaj Perera himself to take the score to 17 points to nil.

In the 52nd minute No 8 Nadira Mohomed scored a try mid right when he picked the ball from a ruck. Perera failed to add the extra points. The score was increased further when Flanker Elham Sallay joined the line to score a try in the left corner five minutes later. The score read 29 points to nil when Perera converted the try.

No 8 Nadira Mohomed muscled his way through the Zahirian defence to score his second try of the game in the 72nd minute. Second rower Imran Mohomed added the extra points to take the score to 36 points.

In the dying stages of the game replacement flanker Tharindra Pathirana collected a 5th phase ball to score mid left with fly half Dulaj Perera making no mistake to take the score to 43 points to nil at full time.
