Favourites advance - SLAF Squash
The curtains were raised for the 6th Sri Lanka Air Force Open Squash Tournament with the preliminary rounds being conducted at the Gymkhana Club squash courts at Maitland Crescent yesterday.

The favourites won their respective events whilst advancing to the 2nd round. Rahisa Deen won her match with ease in the girl’s under 11 category while Rasara Jayasinghe, Dinithi Nanayakkara, Mishelle Dondeenu, K.Methsarani and Tiyara Salgadu winning their matches in the girls under 13 category respectively.

In the boy’s events, T.A.Indrakumar won his match in the under 9 category while Mohomed Hakeem, Twin Osanda and Druvinka Perera won their matches in the boys under 11 category. Malith Diyabalanage and Hareen Weerasuriya managed to defeat their opponents with no difficulty in the boys under 15 age category. H.S. Udayasiri, S.Gunawardena, Binura Jayasuriya, Nadeesh Herath, H.Laksiri and Udantha Hewage emerged winners in the boys under 17 age group
.
In the men’s open novices event Duminda Alwis and AC Malith came out winners. The men’s open category saw the participation of foreign players in the tournament. Kamran Khan and S.M. Khan (two Pakistani players) and A.K. Ashmish (an Indian) won their matches defeating their opponents easily. FL Liyanagunawardena, Kasun Weerasuriya and Adnan Hussain overcome their opponents in the 1st round.- US
