State institutions interested in deploying EWIS AEGIS

Certain government agencies are interested in on boarding, EWIS AEGIS, an innovative AI-powered platform developed in Sri Lanka, aimed at modernising outdated systems across various industries, a top official said.

“We are faced with old systems which need to either convert to newer systems which is costly or to completely rewrite them which is time consuming. We saw this product by the company recently and it is very interesting,” he told the Sunday Times Business.

Cyber threats are a serious risk to government systems, especially those built on outdated legacy platforms that lack modern architecture and resilience. Sri Lanka CERT reported over 12,650 cybersecurity incidents and complaints in 2025, marking a substantial rise in threats targeting both private and public sectors, including ransomware, data breaches, and website defacements. Government websites, including the Department of Government Printing and the Department of Meteorology, have experienced unauthorised hacking and data breaches, highlighting security lapses.

Outdated legacy platforms are harder to maintain, integrate, and secure, making them more exposed to disruptions and evolving risks, Isuru Dissanayake, Chief Technology Officer EWIS told the Sunday Times Business. “EWIS AEGIS addresses this by first modernising legacy systems through a structured, step-by-step transformation—introducing modular design, improving system performance, and enabling better integration. By bringing systems to a modern, manageable state, organisations are then in a much stronger position to implement proper security measures, reduce vulnerabilities and ensure reliable, future-ready digital services.”

EWIS AEGIS brings a simulation-first approach where organisations can test and check planned changes before installing them in their systems. “By doing this, they can reduce the risks, costs, and disruptions that often come with major system updates,” Mr. Dissanayake, added.

With capabilities spanning hardware, enterprise systems, and software development, supporting digital transformation across local and international markets by EWIS, this product has a huge demand by international entities mainly due to the EWIS brand, he said.
