SriLankan Airlines to select CEO soon
View(s):SriLankan Airlines is currently navigating a pivotal era of “restructuring and growth” amidst a leadership crisis.
Following the resignation of Chairman Sarath Ganegoda on March 31, the company is now under the interim guidance of a Treasury official. Mr. Ganegoda and another director Rohan Goonetilleke stepped down from the board without any reasons attributed to the move.
Both were appointed after NPP’s Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected President in late 2024. The two directors are attached to various Hayleys’ Group entities and industry sources said they quit after concerns were raised about a conflict of interest. Hayleys is the local agent for British Airways which is resuming flights to Colombo in October 2026.
Meanwhile the search for a CEO at the airline is on. After a global search that drew over 200 applicants, the government has narrowed the field to a final shortlist of four – three foreigners and one local party, Finance Ministry sources confirmed.
The final selection is expected to be presented for Cabinet approval soon to end the leadership vacuum.
