The Thoduwawa Bridge spanning the Iranawila Estuary which was damaged due to Cyclone Ditwah was declared open after being rebuilt by the Engineering Regiment of the Indian Army on Wednesday March 18.
Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, Minister of Public Administration Chandana Abeyratne and local politicians declared open the bridge which was rebuilt within a span of four months.

This bridge, connecting Wennappuwa and Chilaw, was severely damaged due to the adverse weather condition resulting from the cyclone.
The new Bailey bridge donated by India was constructed under the supervision of the Road development Authority. The government spent Rs 70 million on the construction, carried out by 40 persons attached to the Indian Army.
The damage caused to the old bridge had left it in an unusable state, causing inconvenience to fishermen residing in Iranawila, Thoduwawa and Baradelpola areas.
