Digital service provider selection next month
The Information and Communication Technology Agency’s Request for Information (RFI) submissions for the procurement process in selecting the Managed Service Provider (MSP) for the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity project ended recently, with the evaluation for the MSP being within a month, top officials said.
“We hope to select an MSP within a month,” Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, told the Sunday Times Business. The managed assistance provider will have to address a lot of areas, such as security, networking, data centre etc with this provider managing and operating the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity (SLUDI) platform. Among the MSI applicants, major telecom operators are included, according to a ministry source.
The MSP will take over the SLUDI system just after it has successfully passed authorisation and security testing. The first phase of executing the system will be carried out under the terms of a grant provided by the Government of India (MOSIP), with a Master Systems Integrator managing the project until it is handed over to the MSP. The system will feature a secure, biometric-based digital ID utilising fingerprints, iris scans, and facial recognition, built on the MOSIP platform.
The MSP’s efficiency will be crucial for the operational success of the SLUDI system within Sri Lanka’s digital landscape. The SLUDI project combines various e-NIC software modules and biometric devices from a prior project, along with other excess hardware and software, for reuse in additional Government initiatives.
