State units ponder automating solutions
Two state institutions are discussing with a global fintech leader providing digital payment, banking, and commerce solutions to automate critical services, according to an official.
The Information and Communication Technology Agency and the Ministry of Transport are in discussions with BPC Banking Technologies Asia Pacific Pvt Ltd to automate some of their services, Subash Chandra Bowse, its Country Director, Sri Lanka/Maldives, told the Sunday Times Business.
He said discussions are on with the GovPay project to complete government payment automation, including Aswesuma, a social welfare programme to grant financial assistance to vulnerable households. BPC is also in discussion with the Ministry of Transport to implement O-CITY, an automated traffic election and digital payment solution, enabling contactless payments for passengers. Mr. Bowse added that BPC intends to bid for the request for proposals on this project.
The company works closely with local banks and fintechs to drive digital inclusion and secure payment innovation across the island.
BPC also takes an interest in building national infrastructure. BPC has historically collaborated with LankaClear to enhance the country’s banking sector imprint.
BPC’s Marketplace Solution, designed to bridge traditional banking with the digital ecosystem, enables financial institutions in Sri Lanka and globally to create new revenue streams. “This solution is part of the SmartVista suite, focusing on transforming banks into “digital hubs” that connect consumers with various services beyond banking.”
