Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe has appointed a committee, led by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, to advise on investigations into sensitive and serious criminal cases.
The committee was appointed following a request by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya. Other members include Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Priyantha Bandara, Senior State Counsel Jayanthi Wegodapola and State Counsel Shakthi Jagodaarachchi.
The committee will ensure that no legal lapses occur when filing serious criminal cases currently under investigation.
Attorney General Department sources said the committee will provide urgent advice necessary to resolve any issue that might come up during an investigation.
