All arrangements have been set afoot by Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) to hold the 73rd National Badminton Championship 2025 from December 17 to 23 at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Sports Complex in Mt. Lavinia. Organised and conducted by SLB, the country’s core domestic badminton event will take place at Mount Lavinia for seven consecutive days, with an expected high participation of top ranked and leading shuttlers of the country, in different categories.
As last year, SLB is expecting the number of entries to exceed over 1250 in all categories, as entries are now being called in by the organisers. The main draw seeding will be determined based on SLB Ranking as of December 12, as the draw is set to take place on December 14 at the Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) Headquarters. The draw will be conducted on BWF tournament software, and could be viewed live on the Facebook page and website of SLB.

Ranithma Liyanage
In the last edition, SLB received an overwhelming number of entries, over 1250, a clear progress from previous years. SLB expects the number to exceed above that limit at the 73rd edition of Sri Lanka’s premier National Badminton Championship, where Olympian Viren Nettasinghe and Ranithma Liyanage are the defending champions.
A grand prize money of Rs.2 million for all events based on the number of entries will be on offer, in addition to trophies, medals and certificates guaranteed for winners, runners-up and semi-finalists of each event of the tournament. Junior winners will receive appropriate gifts instead of prize money, according to the decision taken by the tournament organisers. The country’s elite domestic badminton event, conducted in accordance to BWF regulations, is sponsored by McFoil, Mobil, Li Ning, 3M and GAC.
