Wesley, St. Joseph Vaz settle to thrilling draw
Wesley College and St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa had to settle in for an exciting draw, with a scalp and a hit over the rope separating the draw from an exciting win that could have gone either way in their Inter-School Under-19 2-day Cricket encounter ended at Katunayake yesterday. Wesley needed just a wicket for a victory, while St. Joseph Vaz was six runs away from a win when the game ended.
Wesley batted first and made 176 and restricted St. Joseph Vaz at 153 in their reply, earning a 23-run buffer. However, in their second innings, Wesley were shot out for 92, with Damesh Mathishan and Himal Ravihansa claiming five-fers. Chasing 116 runs for victory, St. Joseph Vaz were 110-9 at close of play.
Lithum Senuja hit an outstanding unbeaten knock of 154 in Royal College, Panadura’s first innings win over Tissa Central College in a high-scoring match ended at Kalutara. Twin tons by Lashika Munasinghe was the highlight in Lyceum International School, Nugegoda’s first innings win against Sandalankawa Central College in another high scoring match played at Sandalankawa.
