Seventy-year-old Somapala Gammanpila will be among the 229-member Sri Lankan contingent participating in the Asian Masters Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held from November 5 to 10 in Chennai.

The Asian Masters Athletics Championships is a premier event in the region, boasting a long and distinguished history. It is renowned for its high standards and has become both a source of pride and an aspirational goal for master athletes across Asia.

This championship serves as a platform to foster excellence in masters’ athletics while promoting a healthier quality of life and stronger community bonds through sport. Gammanpila, a former athlete of the University of Colombo from 1974 to 1978, will compete in the Men’s 800m and Javelin Throw events.
