Supreme Court sets date to hear writ application to include intervener
An appeal seeking to include Lasil de Silva as an intervener in the writ application filed against the current administration of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was deferred by the Supreme Court. The petition, filed by K. Mathivanan, a former Vice President of SLC and a long-standing figure in domestic cricket — challenges the legitimacy of the present office bearers of the cricket board. Mathivanan alleges serious violations of the Sports Law, abuse of due process, and deliberate manipulation of regulations to favour a select group of entrenched officials.
The Fundamental Rights petition was taken up before a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justices Kumudini Wickramasinghe, and Mahinda Samayawardena. The case was subsequently postponed to December 3. Earlier in June, the Supreme Court had granted a two-month period for SLC and its office bearers to file limited objections to Mathivanan’s Fundamental Rights application. Counsel appearing on behalf of the SLC President and other respondents had sought additional time to submit these objections before the petitioner’s application is formally supported.
