Veteran insurer Nihal Senaratne honoured by CII UK

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) of London has honoured Nihal Senaratne, Chairman of Senaratne Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd, for his extraordinary contribution to the global insurance profession. The accolade, believed to be the first of its kind issued by the CII, was presented in Colombo by senior CII officials, Ms. Holly Porter, Executive Director (Market & Opportunities) and Ms. Gaenor Jones, Regional Director (Middle East, Central and South Asia), marking a historic moment for Sri Lanka’s insurance industry. This accolade was accompanied by a formal certificate of commendation, according to an official media release.
Mr. Senaratne’s career spans an unprecedented 72 years, beginning in 1953 as a Trainee Manager at Bosanquet & Skrine Ltd. He rose to become Director of the Whittals Group and later founded Senaratne Insurance Brokers in 1979, a firm now renowned for its technical excellence, ethical standards, commitment to professional development and long-term partnerships.
A founding figure of the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute and its former President, Mr. Senaratne also led the Sri Lanka Insurance Brokers Association and chaired the Insurance Advisory Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce for nearly two decades. “This commendation is not mine alone,” Mr. Senaratne remarked. “It belongs to every Sri Lankan professional who has worked tirelessly to elevate our standards and reputation on the global stage.”
