Anne Ranasinghe: 100th birth anniversary soirée

An evening of poetry and music celebrating the birth of Sri Lankan poet Anne Ranasinghe will be held on Thursday, October 2, at 6 p.m. at the Goethe Institut, Gregory’s Road, Colombo.
Anne was of German Jewish origin and fled Nazi Germany in 1939. Her poetry which was included in Sri Lankan English literature syllabus addressed topics of memory, longing and dealing with past violence.
This evening features readings of some of Anne’s most memorable poems and other poems of Sri Lankan contemporary writers in English – read by Ramya Jirasinghe and Vivimarie Van der Poorten and others with music by Johann Peiris (piano) and Dunitha Jagoda (flute).
