Royal College and Bishop’s College showed they could swim with the tide and rule the pool as they became the Senior Champions in the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-19 categories of the National Age Group Water Polo Championship 2025. The three-day event, organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU), at the Air Force Aquatic Sports Complex in Ratmalana concluded last Sunday.

Royal dived in with power and precision, keeping their heads above water from the start. They clinched the Boys’ Under-19 crown with strong teamwork and cool finishing under pressure. Their victory confirmed their place as the kings of senior school water polo.

The Royalists also kept their momentum flowing in the Under-17 category, where they held the line and scored freely to seal another gold. Thurstan College, who fought tooth and nail, had to settle for the silver, while S. Thomas’ College took third place.

S. Thomas’ may have missed the senior boat, but they showed their depth and stamina by dominating the younger age groups. They surged ahead in the Under-15 Boys’ category, playing with power strokes to outswim Royal, who finished second, while Nalanda College pocketed third. The Thomians also left no room in the shallow end, sweeping the Under-13 crown. Royal grabbed the runners-up slot, with Nalanda again coming third.

Bishop’s rode the current with style and authority. They proved too hot to handle in the Senior Girls’ Under-19 division, where they stayed afloat under pressure and scored with sharp shots. Their victory was backed by consistency across the pool. The Bishop’s unit did not stop there. They turned on the taps in the Under-15 and Under-13 categories as well, completing a hat-trick of titles and stamping their name firmly on the water polo map.

Visakha Vidyalaya broke Bishop’s run in the Under-17 event, where they showed deep water skills and stamina to pull away from Ladies’ College, who finished second, and Musaeus College, who took third.
