Maliban nurtures young lasses’ series vs Australia U19s
A new chapter in women’s cricket unfolded yesterday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium when Sri Lanka’s Under-19 women cricketers took the field against their Australian counterparts in the opening match of the Sri Lanka vs. Australia U19 Women’s Series 2025.
The series, which runs until September 30, carries added significance as Maliban has stepped forward as sponsors of both the team as well as the series. Sri Lanka Cricket’s Head of Marketing, Upul Nawaratne Bandara described the partnership as ‘timely’.

“This series gives vital exposure for our young cricketers at a time when women’s cricket is gaining ground, not just in Sri Lanka but globally,” he said.
“What is more important here is our support in supporting the talent and also encouraging them to be with the spirit of the sport,” said Maliban’s Group Head of Marketing, Milinda Weerasinghe at a press conference which announced the series on September 18.
The partnership comes against the backdrop of Maliban’s growing involvement in sporting development, with the company having previously invested in rugby, volleyball, and other disciplines. In women’s cricket, however, this is its first major sponsorship and is seen by both parties as a “beginning rather than an end”.
The T20 encounters which commenced yesterday will continue today and will be played in Dambulla on September 24, 26 and 28, before the one-off One Day International on September 30. Entry for spectators is free, while live coverage will be available on Sri Lanka Cricket’s official YouTube channel and on Talent TV.
