Mayon of St. Joseph’s sets new records in Shot Put

Mayon Rajasinghe from St. Joseph’s College, made a name for himself in the athletic arena by breaking national records and showcasing exceptional talent in field events. At the Western Province Sports Meet, Mayon broke the national record in the Under-16 Shot Put event with a throw of 16.44ms, surpassing his previous record of his own of 15.03m.

At the Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletic Meet, He set a new meet record with a throw of 16.73m in the Shot Put event. Mayon was adjudged the best athlete in the Western Province Sports Meet. He demonstrated remarkable consistency by improving his personal bests in both meets within two weeks. He also excelled in the Javelin Throw event, winning first place at both meets. At a time when Sri Lanka is facing a shortage of athletes in field events who can compete at national and international levels, Mayon’s talent and dedication suggest that he could become a potential athlete in the years to come.
