President reminds newly appointed envoys of crucial role of building Sri Lanka’s image
View(s):President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasised that ambassadors have a crucial responsibility in strengthening Sri Lanka’s image on the international stage.
Addressing a meeting of newly appointed heads of missions, at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday, the President urged them to serve all Sri Lankans living abroad without discrimination, addressing issues faced by the expatriate community and to understand the country’s present needs and challenges.
President Dissanayake also stressed the importance of entering into free and preferential trade arrangements that generate foreign income through investment, exports, tourism, and foreign employment with foreign nations.
Diplomatic appointees, including ambassador designate to Indonesia S.S. Premawardhane, ambassador designate to Brazil C.A.C.I. Colonne, High Commissioner designate to Maldives M.R. Hassen, ambassador designate to Türkiye P.B. Kadurugamuwa, ambassador designate to Nepal Ruwanthi Delpitiya, ambassador designate to South Korea M.K. Pathmanaathan, and ambassador designate to Oman W.A.K.S. De Alwis were present at the meeting.
Others present included President secretary Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Foreign Affairs secretary Aruni Ranaraja, and President’s senior additional secretary Roshan Gamage.
