St. Anthony’s vs S. Thomas’ clash shifted to Colombo

The venue of the traditional rugby encounter between St. Anthony’s College and S. Thomas’ College, played for the Rev. Fr. Angelo Rosati Trophy and originally scheduled to be played on August 23 in Kandy, has now been shifted to Colombo according to confirmed sources. The match now will be played at Longdon Place on August 24 under floodlights from 6:00pm.

The Antonians, who are the host of this year’s encounter, has decided to change the venue due unavailability of a venue in Kandy. If played in Kandy, the traditional encounter would also clash with the first leg of the Bradby Shield encounter between Royal College and Trinity College slotted to be played on August 23 at Pallekele.

This encounter between St. Anthony’s and S. Thomas’ was inaugurated in 2004 in honor of Rev. Fr. Angelo Rosati, who was the Rector of St. Anthony’s and was instrumental in building the iconic auditorium of the Katugastota school. The Thomians are led by scrumhalf Venura Wicmramasuriya and had a successful season in the concluded Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 and succeeded to end as the third best team in the Cup segment. St. Anthony’s, led by fly half Omitha Dissanayake, though did not have a successful stint initially, struck back in the second round and clinched the Bowl title. S. Thomas’ are current holders of the trophy.
