Emerging swimming star A.I.M. Haathim of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda produced a stunning all-round performance to win the Boys Under-15 Pentathlon Champion title at the annual Pentathlon Swimming Championship, which concluded recently at the Air Force Swimming Complex in Ratmalana.
Organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU), the three-day meet featured the country’s top junior swimmers. Haathim rose above a field of 20 competitors in his age group, finishing with a total combined time of 6 minutes and 39.57 seconds. He was a clear 10 seconds ahead of his closest rival, Nethuka Perera of Asian International School, who clocked 6:49.73.
Haathim delivered a clean sweep, winning all five events in the pentathlon. He clocked 1:01.46 in the 100m Butterfly and 57.30 in the 100m Freestyle—both personal bests. His other results were 1:07.10 in the 100m Backstroke, 1:12.51 in the 100m Breaststroke, and 2:21.20 in the 200m Individual Medley.
Haathim has been a member of the Sri Lanka national swimming pool since the beginning of this year. Even before this championship, he had already been selected to represent Sri Lanka at two major international events — the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain this October and next year’s South Asian Games. His latest performance only strengthens his position as one of the most promising young swimmers in the country.
