Unleashing the Spirit of Champions: APIIT Launches Extravaganza 2025 – Sri Lanka’s Premier Inter-University Sports Festival

The Student Activity Club of the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) Sri Lanka proudly announces the launch of Extravaganza 2025, the 11th edition of its flagship inter-university sports tournament. The grand inauguration was held on 11th July 2025 at Orchid Hall, BMICH, followed by a press briefing to unveil the exciting season ahead.
Marking 11 years of sporting excellence, Extravaganza has grown into one of Sri Lanka’s most anticipated university sports festivals. It serves as a powerful platform for showcasing athletic talent, fostering unity, and empowering youth through healthy competition. What began as a student-led initiative now brings together participants from over 50 state and non-state universities across the country.
Running from 2nd August to 14th September 25, the tournament will span seven exciting weekends, featuring a dynamic line-up of Badminton, Cricket, Swimming, Basketball, Rugby, Futsal, and Netball—the latter being a standout addition introduced last year to promote inclusivity and wider student engagement.
The launch was graced by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Bandula Egodage (Chairman, APIIT Sri Lanka), Dr. Chathura Warnasuriya (Head – Law School, APIIT Sri Lanka) and Dr. Rohantha Athukorala (Head – Postgraduate School, APIIT Sri Lanka). A full auditorium of students and staff witnessed the beginning of yet another exciting season of sporting excellence.
The Student Activity Club continues to be the driving force behind student engagement at APIIT Sri Lanka, championing events that uplift, challenge, and inspire. Through Extravaganza 2025, the club once again reaffirms its commitment to nurturing leaders and communities, and celebrating the vibrant spirit of student life on and off the field.
Over the following months, the tournaments will take place, including Cricket (August 2nd) at Panagoda Camp and Mattegoda Army Grounds and D.S. Senanayake Grounds (August 3rd), Futsal (August 9th) at Club Fusion, and Netball (August 16th) at St. Joseph’s Indoor Complex. Additionally, tournaments for Basketball (August 30th-31st) at Nalanda Indoor Basketball Court, Badminton (September 6th-7th) at MBA Badminton Court, Rugby (September 13th-14th) at Race Course Grounds, and Swimming (August 23rd-24th) at St. Joseph’s Swimming Pool Complex will be held at renowned venues across the city.
