Campaign to raise awareness on education reforms
View(s):The first round of programmes to raise awareness on the education reforms will begin next week at provincial level, Deputy Minister of Education Madura Seneviratne said.
With 7,900 schools coming under provincial administration, the programmes will first focus on raising awareness among the relevant authorities as well as other stakeholders.
The programme will next be extended to the 390 national schools, he said.
There will be special programmes for officers, principals and teachers on how the proposed reforms will take place and the timelines for the implementation of the reforms.
The key training programmes will include conducting Training of Trainers (TOT) programmes, teacher training at zonal education level, awareness programmes for provincial level officers and school principals.
Around 100,000 teachers will be trained.
The production and distribution of modules to schools will also begin from next week.
There will also be public awareness programmes conducted through mass media.
To address the issue of the lack of human resources, action has already been taken to recruit the necessary officers in SLEAS, SLTES, teachers and principals.
There will also be engagement with trade unions in the education sector, he said.
The curriculum reforms for Grade 1 and 6 will begin from next year while the first GCE (Ordinary Level) Examination under new education reforms is to be conducted in 2029. (DWI)
