HUTCH recently officially handed over 100 electric bicycles to rural schoolchildren at special ceremonies held at Bandaranayake Model Primary College and Zahira College, in the Anuradhapura District, Central Province. This initiative marks the implementation phase of a joint effort between HUTCH and the Ministry of Education, originally announced earlier this year, a HUTCH media release said.

The project is designed to directly address the transportation challenges faced by students in remote areas, helping them travel to and from school more safely and efficiently. By reducing the daily burden of long-distance travel, HUTCH aims to support consistent school attendance and academic continuity, particularly in geographically isolated regions of the country.

The ceremony was attended by senior representatives from the Ministry of Education and the HUTCH management team, along with school principals, teachers, and members of the local community who gathered to witness the meaningful impact of this initiative unfold at ground level.

Mangala Bandara, General Manager – Corporate Affairs of HUTCH Sri Lanka, said: “This initiative is a reflection of our deep commitment to enabling equal opportunities for all students, regardless of where they live. Through this contribution, HUTCH is not only easing the daily struggles of rural schoolchildren but also paving the way for a more sustainable and inclusive future for education in Sri Lanka. We are proud to be a partner in progress, alongside the Ministry of Education, as we work to remove real-world barriers that stand in the way of a child’s right to learn.”

This contribution is part of HUTCH’s broader CSR vision that places a strong emphasis on education, environmental sustainability, and community upliftment.
