Customs collects Rs. 165 bn from vehicle imports
View(s):Sri Lanka Customs has collected approximately Rs. 165 billion in revenue from vehicle imports alone since the government lifted the ban on automobile imports from February 1, 2025.
Additional Director General of Customs Seevali Arukgoda said the department is on track to exceed its 2025 revenue target of Rs. 2,115 billion. By mid-June, overall Customs revenue had already reached Rs. 900 billion.
In 2024, the department surpassed its target of Rs. 1,533 billion by generating Rs. 1,535 billion. Since the import ban was lifted, about 14,000 vehicles have entered the country. Customs expects vehicle-related revenue to reach Rs. 450 billion by year-end.
Mr. Arukgoda also addressed concerns about global trade disruptions, assuring that the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict has not yet caused any delays in the shipping of goods to Sri Lanka.
