The government has no plans to scrap the Grade 5 scholarship examination immediately, but plans to reduce the burden on students gradually by 2028/29, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya told parliament this week.

She was responding to a question raised by SJB MP Rohini Wijeratne.

The minister said that among the plans are reforms in syllabuses and introduction of developed modules.

Discussions are underway through various committees on the possible reforms in line with local and international standards, she said.
