Former Eastern University VC receives teaching excellence award in Canada
View(s):Dr Kidnan Kobindarajah, former Vice Chancellor of the Eastern University Sri Lanka, has been awarded the 2024 Excellence in Teaching Award by Algoma University in Ontario, Canada.
The award, presented annually to two faculty members, recognises outstanding contributions to teaching, subject expertise, and a strong commitment to student success both inside and outside the classroom.
Dr Kobindarajah began his academic journey at Eastern University as an undergraduate before returning as a lecturer and later senior lecturer in mathematics. He went on to earn his Master’s and PhD degrees in Mathematics from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He holds the distinction of being the first alumnus of Eastern University to serve as its Vice Chancellor. He was the youngest Vice Chancellor in the history of Sri Lanka at the time of his appointment in 2012.
Currently a faculty member at Algoma University, Dr Kobindarajah is widely respected for his engaging teaching style and dedication to mentorship. His recognition reflects both his individual excellence and the global impact of Lankan academics in higher education.
