Sri Lanka hosts 80th CISM General Assembly
The 80th General Assembly and Congress of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) officially kicks off tomorrow at the Grand Maitland Hotel in Colombo. Recognised as the world’s second-largest sporting body after the International Olympic Committee, CISM brings together military athletes and officials under the banner of “Friendship through Sport.”
This prestigious event marks a significant milestone for Sri Lanka, as the nation proudly welcomes nearly 300 foreign delegates representing over 80 member countries from four continents. The opportunity to host the Assembly is both a diplomatic and sporting achievement, further strengthening Sri Lanka’s international presence in military and athletic cooperation.
The week-long General Assembly and Congress will take place from May 19 to 23, featuring high-level discussions, sporting diplomacy, and strategic planning sessions for future CISM initiatives. All arrangements for the event are being coordinated by the Defence Services Sports Board, which includes representatives from the tri-services—Army, Navy, and Air Force—ensuring smooth execution and warm Sri Lankan hospitality throughout the proceedings.
