The S.L.A. Ratnayake Memorial U-17 All-Island Inter-School Badminton Team Championship concluded successfully at S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela after five days of intense competition. The prestigious tournament, held from recently showcased the talents of approximately 800 young players from 83 schools across the island.

Colombo-based schools dominated the competition, claiming an impressive nine championship titles across various divisions. In the premier Super ‘A’ Division, Ananda College emerged victorious in the boys’ category, defeating Dharmaraja College, Kandy, while Musaeus College took home the girls’ title, overcoming Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda.

St. Peter’s College and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya continued Colombo’s winning streak by clinching the ‘A’ Division championships in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively. S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia secured the boys’ ‘B’ Division title, with Kularathne College, Ambalangoda claiming the corresponding girls’ title.

Other notable performances included victories by St. Bridget’s Convent and Vidura College in the ‘C’ Divisions, while schools from outside Colombo also made their mark with Anuradhapura Central College, Badulla Central College, and Our Lady’s School-Upper Section, Nuwara Eliya winning their respective divisions. The event was organised by Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association in collaboration with S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela.
