Ritzbury felicitate ‘Mawbimata Weerayek’ athletes and coaches who excelled at Asian Youth Meet

Ritzbury, a devoted supporter of nurturing Sri Lankan sports, recognised five outstanding athletes who excelled at the 6th Asian Youth Athletic Championship 2025 which concluded in April in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

Of the eight athletes who achieved victory in their respective events, five of these champions are part of the ‘Mawbimata Weerayek’ programme. The athletes were felicitated for their exceptional performances, and in recognition of their hard work and commitment representing Sri Lanka on the international sporting stage.

The event took place on May 2 at Cinnamon Life, Colombo, where the athletes were honoured and awarded with financial support. Kamal Geeganage, CEO and Niluksha Bastiansz, General Manager, Marketing CBL Foods International Ltd were present on the occasion to felicitate the champions. They commended the athletes for their tireless efforts in keeping Sri Lanka’s flag flying high. Also present during the celebrations were Susantha Fernando, Consultant, Ritzbury Mawbimata Weerayek, Aruna Liyanapathirana, Category Manager, Ritzbury, and Dulanjan Abeysekera, Assistant Brand Manager, Ritzbury.

At the felicitation, the medal winners honoured included M.G. Tharushi Abhisheka Premasiri for winning gold medal in the 800m and silver medal for the medley relay, Dananjana Sewmini Fernando for winning two silver medals for the 100m and medley relay. The bronze medallists also acknowledged were H.D. Shavindu Avishka for the 800m, G.D. Lahiru Achintha for the 1500m, and J.H.P. Nethya Sampath for the High Jump.

The coaching team behind Sri Lanka’s successful performance was also recognised at the gathering for their contributions. The five coaches honoured were Buddhika Nuwan, Anuradha Nanayakkara, R.H.M. Jude Chinthaka, K.H.A.D.S.I. Kularathna, and Suranjith Senarath, whose expertise and mentorship played a vital role in preparing the athletes for their medal-winning performances at the Championship.

Launched in 2019, the Ritzbury Mawbimata Weerayek programme enhances the company’s support for national athletics by identifying and inspiring the next generation of athletes across Sri Lanka. The initiative has extended significantly, growing to now nurturing 65 promising talents islandwide. The initiative provides essential financial aid to help athletes excel nationally and internationally, contributing meaningfully to the development of athletics in the country.
