Roshan Gunawardena to lead SLB uncontested
Outgoing Vice President Roshan Gunawardena will take charge of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) after he was unanimously elected as President of the local governing body of the country’s famous shuttle sport. The development comes after the Election Committee of SLB, headed by Retired ASP of Police, N.A.T. Jayasinghe revealed the nominations on Wednesday to elect its new office bearers for the two-year period of 2025 to 2027.
Since nominations were called in for the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled next week, only Gunawardena’s name has been forwarded to fill the President’s post created by the exit the outgoing chief of SLB, Rohan de Silva, who announced his desire to step down due to professional commitments. SLB officials, Ajith Wijesinghe, Buddhuka de Silva, National Selection Committee member Kamal Gamlath and Vice President of the Central Province Badminton Association Palitha Hettiarachchi were present when nominations were revealed. Gunawardena will be elected uncontested as the next head of SLB with other office bearers on May 24 at the AGM to be held at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo.
