Bangladesh U-19s delivered a masterclass in batting prowess, securing a comprehensive 146-run victory over Sri Lanka U-19s in their fourth Youth ODI at the CCC ground yesterday. With this emphatic win, the visitors have established a commanding 3-1 lead in the six-match youth ODI series.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh constructed a formidable innings, amassing an imposing 336 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs before bowling the hosts out for paltry 190 runs. Their batting display was nothing short of spectacular, highlighted by opener Zawad Abrar’s magnificent century.

Abrar, who had already demonstrated his batting capabilities with an unbeaten 130 in the second match of the series, delivered another stellar performance. His 113 runs came off just 115 deliveries, featuring 14 boundaries and three sixes, providing the perfect foundation for Bangladesh’s mammoth total.

The young opener found excellent support in Rizan Hossain, who contributed a brisk 82 from 77 balls, including five boundaries and three sixes. Together, they forged a crucial 135-run partnership for the third wicket that put Bangladesh firmly in control.

The middle and lower order maintained the momentum with swift contributions. A.D. Abdullah (32 off 27), Samiun Basir (23 off a mere 8 balls with three sixes and a boundary), Azizul Hakim (23 off 31), Debasish Deba (19 not out off 11), and Al Fahad (19 off 5) all played vital cameos that propelled Bangladesh beyond the 330-run mark.

For the Sri Lankan bowling attack, Rasith Nimasara claimed three wickets, though at a considerable cost of 96 runs from his 10 overs. Tharusha Navodya provided some control with figures of 2 for 45 from his full quota.

Faced with the daunting target of 337, Sri Lanka’s pursuit began disastrously as both openers departed cheaply, leaving the hosts struggling at 6 for 2. Despite captain Vimath Dinsara’s resilient half-century (66) and contributions from Chamika Heenatigala (30), Kavija Gamage (23), and Rasith Nimasara (39), the Sri Lankan batting lineup crumbled under consistent pressure from Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack.

The visitors displayed remarkable control with the ball, picking wickets at regular intervals and preventing any significant partnerships from developing. Al Fahad led the bowling charts with 3 for 41, while Sanjid Mozumder (2/59) and Azizul Hakim (2/7) provided excellent support. Sri Lanka’s innings eventually concluded at 190 all out in 38.4 overs, handing Bangladesh their third victory in the series and further strengthening their position with two matches remaining.
