Christ King College, Ja-ela recorded the first win of the Battle of the Crowns against traditional rivals Carey College by a convincing innings and 59-run in the inaugural big match encounter concluded at the P. Sara Oval yesterday.

The foundation for the win was laid by Avishka Nirmal, who slammed a quickfire 178 in just 128 balls, inclusive of 14 boundaries and nine sixes, which helped Christ King to make a formidable score of 314-5 declared. In response Carey ended the first day on 34-3. Resuming from their overnight score, Carey succumbed to right-arm pacie Dinendra Rashen, who ended with a five-wicket haul as they were bundled out for just 72 runs.

Carey were made to follow on, and left with the daunting task of erasing a deficit of 242 runs, they made a fighting effort to reach 183 runs, which was eventually not enough to avoid an innings defeat.
