International Certified Management Accountants (Australia & New Zealand) held their silver jubilee graduation ceremony at the Galadari Hotel on Wednesday in the presence of the High Commissioners for Australia Paul Stephens and New Zealand David Pine present.
CEO of ICMA (Australia & New Zealand) Prof Janek Ratnatunga said accountants have a key role to play in the elimination of corruption and referred to a recent a former President of Sri Lanka telling an open forum at the Institute of Chartered Accountants that corruption cannot take place in a government ministry or department unless the Chief Accountant is also part of the corrupt practice.
He said the new government has promised to eradicate corruption and that the President had referred to cases of tax evasion, money laundering and the like, and it was the duty of the accountants to help in the process of good and clean governance.
