Colombo Uni Leo Club conducts language project
View(s):The Leo Club of the University of Colombo launched ‘Project Prarthana 7.0’; an initiative designed to reduce communication and language barriers among schoolchildren in the local community.
The inaugural phase of this project titled ‘LanguageLink’, took place at WP/Minu/Wigoda Maha Vidyalaya, and was organised in collaboration with the British Way English Academy, Nittambuwa.
“The objective of Project Prarthana 7.0 is to enhance the English language skills of students in the local community, providing them with the tools they need to communicate effectively in English”, the University’s Leo Club stated.
On November 12, its members conducted interactive English teaching sessions for different age groups within the school. The event was structured into two segments: the first part catered to students in Grades 1 to 5, while the second focused on students of Grades 6 to 11.
In addition to the hands-on teaching sessions, each participant received an English learning guide along with supplementary tutorials on language activities.
To further support the students’ language development, an English learning unit was established in the primary section of the school.
The Leo Club members donated Scrabble boards, English storybooks, and various other language learning materials to enhance the students’ learning experience. -DW
