Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is set to address an apparent erosion of player discipline following Wanindu Hasaranga’s suspension for showing dissent towards an umpire during the third and final ODI against Bangladesh last week, marking his second offence within three weeks.

Hasaranga displayed frustration by snatching his cap from the umpire in the 37th over of the match, while ODI skipper Kusal Mendis was fined for committing a level 2 offence by verbally abusing the umpires while shaking hands with them after the match.

“We have clearly instructed them not to challenge the umpires as their decision is final,” stated Ashley de Silva, CEO of SLC.

“After their return from Bangladesh, the President will address this issue with the players, as we do not condone such behavior,” he added.

During the Afghanistan series, Hasaranga, the T20 skipper, was involved in an on-field altercation with a local umpire and launched a scathing attack during the post-match press conference, questioning the umpire’s suitability to officiate.
